Change is Good

Despite the title of this blog post, change is scary for people because it’s the unknown and uncomfortable. I’ll admit it, sometimes I’m afraid of change and to step out of my comfort zone. However, without change (and a little leap of faith) you’ll never grow or lean.

My first example of change is making new friends. Whether you and your friends had a falling out, you’re moving, or you’re just trying to put yourself out there. You’re changing who you tell your secrets to. You’re changing who you bring over to your house. You’re changing who you laugh until you cry with. There are so many amazing people out there who are like you and want to get to know you, but you need to put yourself out there. Change is good.

Or you could be changing your major. I’ve been through this process and at first it feels like you’re failing and giving up. I changed my major from psychology to advertising AND LET ME TELL YOU I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER! There was a whole new realm of knowledge and facts just waiting for me to dive into. If you’re not happy with what you’re studying now, you’re not going to be happy in 10 years. Change is good.

Another change is ending a relationship and putting yourself out there/starting another. If you’re unhappy or the relationship isn’t healthy you should end it. Again, it’s hard. It’s uncomfortable. It’s a change you’re not used to, but everything happens for a reason and the universe/God will give you what you need. Change is good.

Change is weird. At first it may seem like everything is falling apart and nothing is going right according to your plan. Change is learning. After the change happens, you can sit down and reflect and learn from what happened. Change is a new beginning. It’s liberating. It’s finding something new about yourself. It’s the next chapter. Embrace what’s new and accept the challenge. Change is good.

Reach Higher in 2016

It’s a little late into the New Year, but I’ve been working hard on my resolutions and I’d like to share all 10 of them with you! 🙂

  1. Be a Happier Marissa– Like I said in my first blog post, I have been on a happiness journey. It has been a TON of work to have to get up everyday and tell myself today I will be happy and I will not think negative thoughts. However, it has been helping change my attitude and there is still so much more to accomplish!
  2. Eat healthier-…I’ve been lacking on this one. I have an addiction to pizza and they haven’t invented a delicious healthy pizza yet, which is extremely disappointing. So, I should probably write down “fruits and veggies” on my grocery list..
  3. Paint more– I JUST finished a new canvas! Painting helps me detox all the negative occurrences in my life, it’s amazing and I can’t wait to create more!
  4. Validate people in my life more– This is one of my favorite resolutions. There are so many kind and amazing people in my life who support me through my happiest and darkest days, so this one is for them. I want to make these special people feel appreciated because they deserve it all!
  5. Start a YouTube Channel– My dream job at the moment is to be a lifestyle/beauty guru and I’m trying to make it happen! It may seem crazy to some, but oh well they don’t have to do it!
  6. Be more adventurous– I’m a goodie goodie, I’m not afraid to admit that. I’ve always followed the rules, so I’m really trying to break out of my comfort zone here in 2016 (current update: still trying not to be afraid of getting in trouble).
  7. Write more– THIS IS SO IMPORTANT! Writing down how I feel and what’s going on in my life is helping me be more organized than I already am, as well as helping me figure out everything I am feeling/want out of life.
  8. Believe in myself more– This is a work in progress for me. I ALWAYS put others before myself because I think it’s important to listen to and be empathetic towards those who come to you and need guidance. Which is amazing and I’m not saying that’s a terrible thing to do, but I’ve put myself on the back burner and I deserve to be a little more selfish when it comes to doing whatever I put my mind to.
  9. Start a blog– ACCOMPLISHED YAY MARISSA!
  10. Become more flexible– This is a really sad resolution my friends. I’m just not bendy. I can’t cart-wheel and it hurts my back to touch my toes (which is honestly so unhealthy it’s crazy). So, I’m trying to stretch my body out and *fingers crossed* I can bend as wacky as a cooked noodle!

THAT’S THE LIST!! Even though 2016 has already begun, it’s never too late to set goals for yourself (especially if you write them down and hang them on your wall!). There are 290 days left in 2016, so let’s all try to make them count!
